MY 10TH SPEECH
On Friday, June 26, 2015, I delivered my 10th speech at Fox Talkz Toastmasters and earned my Competent Communicator Award! It’s official, I can now put C.C. after my name.
I did my Ice Breaker, which is the very first speech assigned to you at Toastmasters, last year on August 1st. I knew that I wanted to achieve my C.C. quickly, but I didn’t expect that it would be in less than a year. What an exhilarating experience this last year has been!
THANKS, JACK!
I had heard about Toastmasters throughout the years, but it wasn’t until my good friend, Jack, who I met in Improv class at The Second City in Hollywood, invited me to check out his club on the Fox Studios Lot. How cool to check out Toastmasters AND hang out on the Fox Studios Lot on a Friday morning?
I spoke on my first visit during Table Topics and I was hooked. I joined within two weeks and gave my first speech a couple of months after that.
INTERNATIONAL SPEECH CONTEST
In March of this year, I participated in the International/Inspirational Speech Contest that Toastmasters holds every year. Winning at the club level and then placing 2nd at the Area (B3) contest was a thrill.
I’ve already started to think about next year’s speech that I will enter into the contest.
CHECK OUT TOASTMASTERS FOR YOURSELF
You will gain confidence and learn new ways to communicate in front of groups of people. I enjoy my time there and I was just elected as the Vice President of Public Relations for this new term (June 2015 – June 2016).
With the additional public speaking skills that I’ve learned, and continue to learn, and the opportunity to hone my message for Disable My Disability, I’m looking forward to spending more time in front of bigger and bigger audiences around the world.
